Genrikh Bukhsbaum
1922-2008
Was born in what is now Lvov, Ukraine. He studied at the Lvov School of Art before the Russian and German invasions of 1939. His art is at times joyful, lively, and even comical as he strives to preserve the positive moments of Jewish life from years past. As a survivor of the Holocaust, Genrikh expresses a deep wish to preserve the joyous and happiest moments in Jewish culture. Through his playful depictions of shtetyl life, Genrikh reminds us of the undying spirit of joy that lives in us all.
